Cubs' Baez makes beautiful throw from his bottom but just misses

Spoiler that you should have inferred from the headline: Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto was ruled safe after umpires reviewed the play, nevertheless it was a defensive gem from Chicago Cubs third baseman Javier Baez. (Check out video above.)

Baez ranged a few steps toward short on a hard chopper by Realmuto and managed to get enough glove on it to stop the ball and knock it into the air. Then while the ball was coming down, Baez got his body in position on the ground to catch the ball barehanded and hurl it to Wilson Contreras at first base.

It was extremely close but tie goes to the runner. Heck of an effort and tip of the hat to Baez as shortstop Addison Russell probably would have had no play on the grounder.
