Colorado high school wins state semifinal on hidden-ball trick

It's the old hidden-ball trick. But it wasn't so old that it didn't work at a most opportune time for a Colorado high school team on its way to a state championship.

Rye won its semifinal game on Saturday on a game-ending hidden-ball play. With two outs and a runner on second, Rye pitcher Junior Ortiz wheeled and stepped off the rubber, apparently trying for a pickoff. His Rye teammates acted as if he'd made a wild throw to the outfield. The runner for Hotchkiss was fooled and took off for third. Ortiz, the ball still in his glove, ran over and tagged him out.

Later, Rye defeated Resurrection Christian 12-10 to win Colorado's Class 2A title.
