Coco Crisp believes the A's are trying to cost him millions
Coco Crisp has spent the past seven seasons with the A’s, but he thinks the team is conspiring to make sure there isn’t an eighth year.
Crisp, 36, has a $13 million option for 2017 that will vest if he plays in 130 games this season. He’s at 93 games right now, but his playing time has diminished recently. And he doesn’t think that’s a coincidence, as he explained to the San Francisco Chronicle:
The A’s maintain they simply are trying to audition younger talent for next season, and it’s worth noting that Crisp is hitting just .221/.274/.611 against left-handed pitching in 2016. But Crisp believes there’s more to the story than that, as he told the Chronicle:
Crisp went on to describe the situation as “frustrating and disappointing.” That sentiment surely only will grow if he finds himself on the bench Tuesday against Rangers right-hander Lucas Harrell.
