Cleveland Indians sign draft pick Triston McKenzie, top 11 picks now under contract

The Cleveland Indians have come to terms with Triston McKenzie, their second pick in the June draft.

The 17-year-old right-hander was drafted by the Tribe with their competitive balance pick at No. 42 overall. McKenzie, 6-5 and 160 pounds, went 9-5 with a 0.62 ERA in his senior year at Royal Palm Beach High School.

McKenzie, who was viewed as one of the more difficult picks to sign, had committed to Vanderbilt University. He's the second player that the Indians have signed that was headed for Vanderbilt. In 2014, the Tribe drafted and signed left-hander Justus Sheffield, their second first round pick.

According to Jim Callis of MLB.com, McKenzie signed for $2,302,500. Callis said it was the largest signing bonus for a high school right-hander in this year's draft. It was also $834,100 over McKenzie's slotting bonus of $1,468,500.

Once McKenzie officially signs, the Indians will have signed all 11 players from their first 10 rounds of the draft, as well as 14 of their first 15 picks.
