Cincinnati Reds should join Cyber Monday and put Raisel Iglesias on the block for a one day auction.
The Cincinnati Reds have a talented pitcher that doesn’t fit into their long terms who needs to be moved.
The Cincinnati Reds need to move Raisel iglesias while the price is high. That may seem counter intuitive to Cyber Monday, but the Reds are buyers and sellers here. They have the high value in demand piece and they need some bargain deals to complete the rebuild.
The timing of the deal is due to the ever moving kaleidoscope of trades in the MLB off-season. In order for teams to have the pieces to send for Iglesias, the move must happen soon. The Reds have to take advantage of the high cost of pitching so far this off-season.
This could be the year that the Reds finally get Brett Gardner. For the past few off-seasons the Reds have called about Gardner to play center to keep the wear and tear off of Billy Hamilton. The question is whether the Reds still have interest.
Another option that is possible is another New York Yankee in starter Michael Pineda. The Yankees have lost some belief in him as he has struggled to improve. The question is once again the amount of Reds’ interest.
The Reds need to shop for a solution to their largest weakness if they are going to trade Iglesias.
Iglesias is a valuable piece. He is arbitration eligible after the 2017 season if he can stay healthy. He could have been arbitration eligible based on his contract this off-season, if he had played enough. The pushing off of his arbitration date made him a deadline piece that almost got traded.
The team that gets Iglesias gets a stud tweener pitcher at a great salary number for a year. His salary number will explode once his is arbitration eligible. That makes him a poor fit long term for the Reds.
Iglesias fits perfectly on a contending team with plenty of money. Trading him to the Yankees makes sense for both sides. The Yankees would need to be willing to part with enough talent to close the deal.
Pineda would the starting point for the Reds. They would need multiple prospects to close the deal. Iglesias should bring back more than Aroldis Chapman did last year as far as quality goes.

In addition to a starter like Pineda, the Yankees would need to send a top outfield prospect like Aaron Judge, Dustin Fowler, or Jake Cave. Sadly, Cave was in the Reds camp last off-season through the Rule 5 draft. Whatever the Reds decide to do, they need to do it before everyone has spent their prospects.
