ChiSox, Ramirez reach four-year deal

The Chicago White Sox agreed to a four-year contract extension with shortstop Alexei Ramirez, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.

The new contract is reportedly worth $32.5 million over the four years, with a $10 million option for a fifth year.

The slick-fielding shortstop was already under contract through 2013, but the team moved to lock him up after a stellar 2010 season in which he won a Silver Slugger award.

The Silver Slugger is given to the top offensive player at his position in each league. Ramirez, 29, hit .292 last year with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs.

Many observers felt Ramirez should have been awarded the Gold Glove, but it was given instead to the Yankees' Derek Jeter.
