Carlos Correa staying grounded despite higher profile in Puerto Rico
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa had a breakout campaign in 2015, making an immediate impact on the roster and helping the club reach the postseason.
In a new piece penned by Correa for The Players' Tribune, the 21-year-old outlines his experience back home in Puerto Rico -- and specifically touches on all the newfound attention he receives there.
Correa writes that his mother warned him of how popular he was in Puerto Rico before he arrived after the season, but he figured it'd be the same as it was before. However, that hasn't been the case:
Among the other offseason details Correa outlines in his essay is a tidbit about how he eats ice cream during the season but switched to frozen yogurt in the winter months.
As for his interests during his free time, Correa emphasized his desire to spend time with his family instead of, he says, "partying out there with some random people."
Correa's seeming maturity and level-headedness is just the type of mindset that manager A.J. Hinch will need from his club in 2016 as the Astros look to build upon ending a 10-year postseason drought in 2015.
