Cardinals' Walden takes step forward in rehab

 

The Cardinals have had the best pitching staff in baseball for most of the season and it appears they may be getting even stronger in the near future.

Right-hander Jordan Walden has been out since late Paril with inflammation in his biceps, but he will throw a bullpen session on Monday, a big step in the right direction.

“Very encouraging,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “You can tell he’s getting stronger. He’s getting closer.”

Walden is scheduled to throw three bullpen sessions this week and then hopes to go on a rehab assignment shortly thereafter.

“Everything’s great right now,” said Walden. “It’s a slow process. It’s something I couldn’t rush, and they told me that from the start. If you try to rush it, it would just set you back further. But after the break, I should pretty much be a normal guy.”
