Cardinals committed to Reynolds

The Cardinals brought Mark Reynolds to St. Louis with a role in mind and although that role is now going to be a lot more significant, the club believes in Reynolds and will implement him as its new everyday first baseman.

“The message that I want to continue to give is we brought Mark Reynolds here for a reason, and it was just in case something happened and we need somebody to step in,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Something happened. We need somebody to step in. So Mark has that opportunity.”

According to the newspaper, Matt Adams had surgery on his right quadriceps muscle Friday and will “need at least four months to recover.”

When Adams injury first occurred, trade rumors involving the Cardinals immediately started to swirl. People thought the Cardinals may go after a first baseman, but it looks like the team is content with Reynolds.

At least for the time being.

Reynolds has played in 41 games this season and is hitting .252 with three home runs and 13 RBIs.
