Cabrera, Indians agree to one-year deal

Free-agent infielder Orlando Cabrera, unemployed for most of the offseason, has found a new home.

Cabrera, 36, has reached agreement with the Cleveland Indians on a one- year, major-league contract, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. He will compete with Luis Valbuena to be the team's starting second baseman.

The Indians will be Cabrera's sixth team in the past five years. However, he has appeared in the postseason each of the past four years, playing for the Angels, White Sox, Twins and Reds.

Cabrera, a 14-year veteran, batted .263/.303/.354 last season with the Reds. He is a lifetime .274/.320/.395 hitter.
