Busch Stadium foul poles being removed - temporarily
The St. Louis Cardinals' home ballpark, Busch Stadium, will undergo a radical tweak on Thursday: its foul poles are being removed.
No, this isn't part of some massive overhaul or re-design of the Cards' iconic stadium...it's all about facilitating the upcoming World Cup qualifying match between the United States and the Caribbean nation Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
That match is coming up on November 13, so the field must be readied for soccer - hence the temporary tear-down of the foul poles. Back in 2013 there was a Chelsea vs. Manchester City match hosted at Busch, though for that contest the foul poles were left standing. This time around, however, more accomodations must be made for the match.
Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch noted that St. Louis has also been host to a World Cup qualifying match, with the previous occurrence taking place on November 5, 1989 when the U.S. played El Salvador.
