Brewers sign free agent left-hander Davis

The Brewers have agreed with free agent left-hander Doug Davis on a one-year, $5.25 million contract, one major league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.

The deal will be announced after Davis completes a physical examination.

At his best, Davis profiles as a No. 3 starter behind Yovani Gallardo and the newly signed Randy Wolf. The remaining two spots in the Milwaukee rotation should belong to some combination of Dave Bush, Jeff Suppan and Manny Parra.

Davis went 9-14 with a 4.12 ERA in 34 starts with Arizona last year. He previously pitched for the Brewers from 2003 through 2006.

The deal includes a base salary of $4.25 million this year and a mutual option worth $6.5 million in 2011. If the Brewers decline their share of the option, Davis will receive a $1 million buyout.

The contract also has performance bonuses worth up to $1 million in both 2010 and 2011.
