Brewers manager says Liriano doing well after being beaned

PHOENIX (AP) The manager of the Milwaukee Brewers says outfielder Rymer Liriano is doing well a day after being hit in the face by a pitch.

Liriano sustained multiple facial fractures. Manager Craig Counsell visited him in the hospital on Monday and said the 24-year-old Liriano will start the season on the disabled list.

The Brewers' head trainer was expected to give more details about Liriano's condition later Monday at the team's spring training complex. Liriano was having additional tests on his injuries.

Liriano was carried off the field on a backboard after the pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Matt West hit him on the left side of the face in the eighth inning.

Liriano had been in the mix to start the season in center field for the rebuilding Brewers.
