Braves shortstop Simmons misses second straight game with sore knee
Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons was out of the lineup for a second straight game on Monday, but manager Fredi Gonzalez said his knee injury is minor.
“The doctors checked him out and nothing is structurally damaged, which that was nice news to hear,” Gonzalez said.
Simmons suffered the injury while scrambling back to third base in Saturday's loss to the Chicago Cubs and woke up the next day with stiffness in his left knee. Pedro Ciriaco made a second straight start in his place.
Gonzalez said Simmons was available to play Monday and expected him to return to the lineup for Tuesday's game.
The Braves shuffled their roster earlier Monday, calling up catcher Christian Bethancourt and right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon from Triple-A Gwinnett while demoting outfielder Eury Perez and designating reliever David Aardsma for assignment.
