Braves Ender Inciarte Tremendous 2nd Half: Waiver Worthy?
Ender Inciarte is on a tear at the plate, and has been one of the best hitters in baseball over the second half for the Braves. But, should fantasy owners make him a waiver wire add moving forward?
The Braves knew that the 2016 season was going to be a tumultuous one, and things have followed that script. But, the future is bright, and they are armed with plenty of intriguing players. One of the most interesting, is outfielder, Ender Inciarte.
The 25-year-old was singed as an amateur free agent in 2008 by the Diamondbacks. Starting in the minors at the age of only 17, Inciarte has methodically moved through the ranks and cemented himself as an every starter with Arizona in 2014. He was dealt to the Braves in the Shelby Miller robbery, and the Braves were more than willing to slot him in center for the foreseeable future.
His 2016 season did not get off to a great start though, as he would injure his groin in April, costing him nearly the whole first month of the season. Inciarte would then struggle in May, predictably so as he tried to get back into the groove of things, but his resurgence began in June.
Ender Inciarte posted a, .260/8 RBI/4 SB/13 R line in June, which is a solid line, but no one would could guess how he would parlay that success moving forward. Since the beginning of July, Inciarte has notched 80 hits, raising his AVG by over 60 points heading into the second week of September. He seemingly gets two hits a night, and is currently riding a 16 game hit streak.
Now with a guy this hot since the break, owners would think he is universally owned. That is not the case though. The only reason that Inciarte is not rostered in more leagues, is due to the lack of contributions in any other category. While all three of his homers have come after the break, and he does have 14 SB this season, there is certainly room for statistical improvement.
Even though one trick ponies are often not the best waiver wire adds, Inciarte has to be added with the fantasy playoffs only a week away. The bottom of the Braves order will not help his RBI numbers any, but with Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp behind him in the order, the Runs totals should be there. When it comes to his SB production, it seems as though Inciarte is beginning to run at will again, as he has two stolen bases in his last two games.
Winning in the fantasy playoffs is all about what team is the hottest over the next few weeks. Inciarte is easily one of the hottest bats in the game, and he has proven that over the last four months now. He offers solid AVG/R/SB totals moving forward, and fantasy owners should take full advantage of a multi-categorical producer that is still just sitting out on the waiver wire.
Make the move.
