Brandon Barnes: Rockies sparkplug?

The Colorado Rockies have been playing well since Brandon Barnes was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque. The team had lost 15 of 18 games, but has gone 4-3 since his call-up, including a perfect 4-0 when he’s started. Coincidence?

Mile High Sports sees a correlation:

The 29-year-old’s positive attitude, high-energy play, and his contributions on offense and defense have been key in correcting the Rockies’ tailspin. The club is currently on a three-game winning streak for the first time in over a month.

Although their third consecutive win was against a poor Reds team, the first two wins were against a hot Giants team.

Barnes has certainly produced since being called up. He’s gone 9 for 17 and driven in three runs, and perhaps most importantly has only struck out once. The Rockies were in the midst of a historic double-digit strikeout streak before he was called up, while the man he replaced, Drew Stubbs, was piling up an exorbitant number of K’s this season.
