Boston's Ortiz on waiving no-trade clause: 'No chance'

When a veteran player inches towards the end of his contract, the end of his career, it's not out of the ordinary for him to request a trade to a contender. For example, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who indeed was dealt by the Philadelphia Phillies last offseason.

However, don't expect Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz to waive his 10-and-5 rights to make the playoffs in 2015.

“No chance,” Ortiz told the Boston Globe Thursday. “This is the team I’ll be with the rest of my career. I couldn’t do that to my family. I couldn’t just go to another team and fit in after all of these years. I want to be here.”

On the season, Ortiz is hitting .229 with nine homers in 59 games.
