Blue Jays slugger Encarnacion has abscessed tooth pulled

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) Toronto Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion missed Monday's intrasquad game a day after having an abscessed tooth pulled.

Manager John Gibbons said the All-Star first baseman/designated hitter was not with the team Monday. Encarnacion is not expected to miss any more time.

''He's probably not eating real good right now,'' Gibbons said.

Gibbons also said shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and outfielder Jose Bautista will not make their spring training debuts until later.

Tulowitzki will skip the first three games against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but is expected to play on Friday against Baltimore. Bautista will not be in the lineup for a week to 10 days.

''With Jose, that longer season and his workout regimen, it just gives him a little more time,'' he said. ''(For) Tulo, that was kind of the plan to begin with.''

The Blue Jays open exhibition play on Tuesday against the Phillies in Clearwater.
