Bill Murray surprised a Cubs fan with a free Game 6 ticket next to him

Before the Chicago Cubs took on the Cleveland Indians in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night, Cubs fan Karen Michel visited the Progressive Field box office hoping to somehow score a single ticket.

Of course she walked away empty-handed, but then she spotted Cubs celebrity super fan Bill Murray and started to follow him, when he turned around. Via MLB.com's Alyson Footer, here's the exchange that led to a game day experience you can't buy at the ticket window:

"He turns around and says, 'Here, here's a ticket,'" Michel said. "And he kind of shuttled me into the door. I thought it was just a ticket to get in. But it was a ticket to sit right here."

By "here," Michel meant the seat right next to Murray, in the box section closest to the field, a few rows behind home plate.

It won't work as a "no one will ever believe you" Bill Murray story because there's an abundance of photographic evidence.

She sat next to Murray the entire game and not far from other well-known Cubs fans like Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder. And of course she got to see the Cubs bats go wild in 9-3 win to force a Game 7 on Wednesday night.

"I thought it was just a ticket to get in," Michel said of Murray's generous act. "I didn't think it would be anything like this."

Of course this begs the question: Did Murray just show up to the park looking for a Cubs fan to join him for the historic game? Knowing what we know about Murray that wouldn't be at all surprising and it's why he's such a treasure.

Also why he should expect a swarm of Cubs fans trailing him around the perimeter of Progressive Field come Wednesday evening.

Coverage or Game 7 begins at 7:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
