Bartolo Colon files trademark for 'Big Sexy' nickname
New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon has applied to trademark his nickname "Big Sexy," as first reported by ESPN's Darren Rovell.
Colon earned the nickname from his Mets teammates last season, and it really took off when pitcher Noah Syndergaard shared a Christmas photo of his family sporting "Big Sexy" T-shirts in December.
Records from the United States Patent and Trademark Office show that Colon applied to use the trademark on April 16 for athletic apparel -- namely, shirts, pants, jackets, footwear, hats and caps.
Colon is certainly a big guy and he's currently sporting some pretty sexy stats, especially considering he's the oldest active player in MLB at 42. Colon is 3-2 with a 3.53 ERA, 36 strikeouts and only four walks.
To add to the "Big Sexy" mystique, Colon also has one home run this season -- his first of his career -- which he hit off of Padres pitcher James Shields earlier this month.
