Bad news: Schwarber out at least 3-5 days with rib cage strain
The Chicago Cubs don't want to lose this guy at all, but they'll take only three to five days without rookie slugger Kyle Schwarber as relative good news.
Mild right rib cage strain for Schwarber. Will let it calm down 3 to 5 days and will know more in St. Louis. #Cubs

Schwarber sustained a rib cage strain Wednesday during batting practice. He could be out longer if necessary, and the Cubs will be cautious since Chicago has a comfortable lead for the second wild-card spot. Although they'd love to have him back quickly to make a charge on the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first wild-card spot which awards home-field advantage in the do-or-die playoff game.
Schwarber is hitting .270 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs in 48 games. His absence will likely mean more playing time in the outfield for Chris Denorfia, Chris Coghlan and the recently acquired Austin Jackson. Regular third baseman Kris Bryant could also see time in the outfield if needed, according to CBS Chicago.
The Cubs play a weekend series at Wrigley against Arizona before heading to St. Louis on Monday.
