At Rays game, first responder proposes to victim whose life he saved

The first pitch on Monday night at Tropicana Field arguably will be the sweetest one made this baseball season, reported TBO.com.

Prior to the Tampa Bay Rays game against the New York Yankees, Melissa Dohme caught a proposal from Cameron Hill.

How they got to this point makes the story what it is.

Three years ago, Dohme was the victim of a domestic attack, having been stabbed 32 times by her former boyfriend in St. Petersburg.

Hill was the first responder who arrived at the scene and saved her life.

After her recovery, Dohme became an advocate for domestic violence victims. Hill and Dohme fell in love after the attack and he was by her side when her former boyfriend Robert Lee Burton was sentenced to life in prison for the Jan. 24, 2012 attack.

On Monday night, Dohme was invited to throw out the first pitch before the Rays' game.

What she didn't know was Hill planned to intercept her on her way to the mound.

Hill dropped to one knee and handed her a baseball that said: "Will You Marry Me?"

Overcome with emotion, she "yes" before hugging him and throwing the first pitch.
