Astros reach 1-yr deal with Keuchel for $7.25M, 3 others
HOUSTON (AP) AL Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel and the Houston Astros have agreed to a one-year contract for $7.25 million.
The Astros also reached deals with infielders Marwin Gonzalez and Luis Valbuena and reliever Josh Fields on Friday after they had all filed for salary arbitration.
Keuchel went 20-8 with a 2.48 ERA in 33 starts and set a major league record by going 16-0 at home. He was the starting pitcher for the AL in the All-Star game and his ERA was second in the AL.
Gonzalez hit .279 with 12 homers and 34 RBIs as Houston's super utility player. He appeared in 120 games with starts at first, second and third base as well as shortstop and in the outfield.
Valbuena hit 25 homers in his first season with the Astros last year and Fields went 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 54 appearances.
Catcher Jason Castro and designated hitter Evan Gattis did not agree to contracts before Friday's deadline and will go to arbitration.
