A's take a flier on veteran Phil Coke

The Oakland Athletics took a flier on veteran reliever Phil Coke on Saturday, signing him to a minor-league contract.

Coke, 32, was designated for assignment for the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this season after only making two appearances with the Jays.

Chris Iott of MLive.com added that Coke has a July 10 opt-out option with his deal with Oakland:

In his eight-year MLB career, Coke owns an ERA of 4.20, and has thrown 411 innings out of the bullpen with the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and the Blue Jays.
