AP source: Chen, Johnson agree to terms with Marlins
MIAMI (AP) A person close to the negotiations says left-hander Wei-Yin Chen and infielder Chris Johnson have agreed to terms with the Miami Marlins.
The person confirmed the deals to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because they hadn't been announced.
The person says Chen agreed to a five-year contract. The veteran adds needed depth to the rotation behind ace Jose Fernandez and might become Miami's No. 2 starter.
Chen went 46-32 with a 3.72 ERA in four seasons with the Orioles. Last year he was 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA in 31 starts.
Johnson will provide depth off the bench at first and third base. He is a career .280 hitter in seven seasons. He was with the Braves and Indians last year and batted .255 in 83 games.
