Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker suffers skull fracture after line drive off head
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker was involved in a scary moment during Sunday's game against the Mariners in Seattle when he took a line drive to the head.
During the second inning, Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager lined a pitch right back at Shoemaker and struck the pitcher on the side of his head. The ball was traveling at an approximate speed of 105 MPH, according to MLB's StatCast.
After being looked at by trainers on the field, Shoemaker was brought to the hospital and diagnosed with a fractured skull and a small hematoma.
Fortunately, Shoemaker is apparently doing okay, considering the circumstances.
This is just about every pitcher's worst nightmare, so hopefully the Shoemaker finds a speedy and full recovery.
Matt Shoemaker update: Initial readings of CT scan indicate small skull fracture & small hematoma. He will see a neurologist today. #Angels
