Angels outfielder thinks inning is over, tosses ball into the crowd

The Los Angeles Angels pulled one of the strangest double-plays you’ll ever see Tuesday against the Mariners. With a runner on first and one out, left fielder Daniel Nava caught a deep shot to the warning track, and thought the inning was over. Nava flipped the ball into the crowd and started to jog back toward the dugout, allowing Seattle’s Stefen Romero to take his two free bases.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia, however, came to Nava’s rescue. Scioscia protested the play and directed the pitcher to throw to first base. Romero had never tagged first following Nava’s catch, so the play was still live.

Nava joked that his daughter would teach him how to count to three after the game.
