Angels' Mike Trout headed for rehab workout, games in minors

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Mike Trout will participate in a full workout with the Los Angeles Angels' Class A affiliate at Inland Empire on Tuesday in the next step of his return from left thumb ligament surgery.

The Angels said Sunday that Trout will stay home from their upcoming trip to Minnesota and Texas.

Trout will have a private workout Monday before heading to Inland Empire. If he is ready, Trout will play in rehab games during the upcoming week.

The Angels will announce more details of Trout's rehab plan after Tuesday's workout.

Trout took batting practice Friday at Angel Stadium.

The two-time AL MVP has missed 33 games since May 29. Trout was injured sliding headfirst into second base in Miami.

Trout initially was projected to be out six to eight weeks.
