Aledmys Diaz, childhood friend of Jose Fernandez, hits grand slam after tribute

While MLB players, coaches, executives and fans continue to mourn the death of Jose Fernandez, yet another amazing tribute to the fallen Miami Marlins pitcher occurred during Tuesday night's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds.

Aledmys Diaz, the Cardinals All-Star shortstop and a childhood friend of Fernandez, hung a Cardinals-personalized Fernandez jersey in the dugout to honor his fallen comrade -- whose memorial service he had just returned from on Monday.

Their relationship was explained in detail during ESPN's broadcast of the Cardinals game vs. the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night:

Fast-forward to the bottom of the 4th inning on Tuesday, bases loaded with Cardinals, and what transpired was nothing short of incredible -- Diaz blasted a grand slam, the first of his career ...

First, Dee Gordon's emotional home run to lead off Monday's game for the Marlins -- and now this ...

... a truly remarkable tribute that encompasses every facet of the word. Well done, Aledmys.
