2nd baseman DeWitt scratched from Cubs' lineup

Blake DeWitt was scratched from the Chicago Cubs' lineup Sunday against the Washington Nationals because of back spasms.

He was scheduled to start at second base and bat second. Darwin Barney replaced him.

The Cubs were trying to avoid a three-game sweep after Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol failed to protect late leads in each of the first two games, wasting solid starts by Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza.
