Wild-Card Series: Chicago wins 2-0

What To Know: In the first big upset of the postseason, the White Sox — losers of more than 300 games over three seasons prior to this one — got their first playoff series win since 2005, sweeping the Astros. They now move on to face Guardians in the ALDS. 

Wild-Card Series: New York wins 2-0

What To Know: This one wasn't really close. The Yankees outscored the Red Sox 18-2 across two games, sending their rivals home for the second consecutive year in the wild-card round.

Wild-Card Series: San Diego wins 2-0

What To Know: The Cubs beat the Padres 2-1 in last year’s wild-card round, but that series was played at Wrigley Field. The series shifted to Petco Park this year, and the Padres left no doubt which was the better team. They outscored the Cubs 12-1 across two games. Likely NL MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong didn't have a hit in the series.

Wild-Card Series: Atlanta wins 2-1

What To Know: The Braves and Phillies know each other well, and their rivalry has carried into October. The Phillies beat the Braves 3-1 in back-to-back division series in 2022 and 2023, and had won all three postseason series between the teams. That trend ended on Thursday.
