2024 MLB Cy Young Award odds, race: Tarik Skubal becomes huge AL favorite

The MLB Cy Young Award has singled out its favorites.

In the AL, Tarik Skubal is a huge favorite to win the honor, at 16-4 on the season for the Detroit Tigers. He has a 2.51 ERA — best in the big leagues — with 201 strikeouts (tied for first in MLB).

He was named to his first All-Star Game this season.

Over in the NL, the Braves' Chris Sale is in the driver's seat. He is 15-3 as a starter, has a 2.58 ERA (second) and has 197 strikeouts (tied for third).

Let's dive into the most recent odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Sept. 3.

American League Cy Young Odds:

Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers: -5000 (bet $10 to win $10.20 total)
Corbin Burnes, Baltimore Orioles: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Emmanuel Clase, Cleveland Guardians: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners: +4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total)

Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates: +4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total)
Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds: +6000 (bet $10 to win $610 total)

About a month ago, the Cy Young race was still a race — but in the AL, Skubal has effectively put things to bed.

On Aug. 6, he was -170 to win the award, with Baltimore's Corbin Burnes at +150.

But since then, in five appearances, Skubal has gone 4-0 with 39 strikeouts and eight earned runs in 32 innings pitched.

Sale has also seen his odds shorten in the NL race. He was at +110 on Aug. 6, with Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes at +200 and Philadelphia's Zach Wheeler at +250.

Since then, Sale has gone 2-0 in five appearances. Over that span, he struck out 42 batters in 30.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs.
