2023 World Series MVP odds: Corey Seager huge favorite after another HR

The Texas Rangers are one win from capturing their first World Series. They are also huge betting favorites to win it all.

As for World Series MVP, Corey Seager, Texas' star shortstop, has emerged as the heavy betting favorite to win the award.

Seager went 2-for-5, with a double and a two-run homer, in the Rangers' 11-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Seager is 4-for-17 (.235) with two walks, three home runs and six RBIs against Arizona.

The odds for Seager winning World Series MVP went from -170 to -420 (bet $10 to win $12.38 total) after Game 4. Seager was +450 to win MVP before Game 3.

Will anyone else rise to the occasion to pass up Seager? Or is this his award to lose?

FOX Sports MLB Analyst Ben Verlander, host of the Flippin' Bats podcast, said he was impressed by how the Rangers didn't miss a beat without Adolis Garcia.

"Everyone stepped up," Verlander said. "And it started with the stars. It started with Corey Seager, it started with Marcus Semien. Corey Seager's been hot, he's been on fire, and he's stayed on fire.

"He's the only shortstop in World Series history with three or more home runs in a single World Series. He's well on his way, in my opinion, to World Series MVP."

FOX Sports MLB Analyst Derek Jeter won five World Series as the shortstop for the New York Yankees, and he's been impressed by Seager.

"This guy's my favorite player, man. He is fun to watch," Jeter said. "I mean, he's just locked in as anyone at the plate. And he doesn't just get hits, he does damage. … Why do you continue to pitch to him? You can't even throw him a strike because he's aggressive, he's attacking first pitches. He's a big reason why they're here."

Seager is seeking his second World Series MVP award. He led the Los Angeles Dodgers to the 2020 World Series title.

Texas is seeking its first world championship.

"It would be awesome," Seager said. "Any time you can put yourself in this position is where you want to be. For this team, this organization, it would be a big one for us."

The Rangers got bad news Tuesday as postseason star Garcia was removed from the roster due to an injury. Garcia, the American League Championship Series MVP who won Game 1 against Arizona with his home run in the bottom of the 11th inning, strained left oblique late in Game 3.

Garcia was the favorite to win MVP at +230 after Game 1.

Game 5 of the World Series can be seen on FOX and the Sports App at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
