2023 MLB Cy Young odds: AL and NL favorites; Gerrit Cole's odds shorten

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has an impressive career résumé: six-time All-Star, two-time All-MLB first team, two-time leader in strikeouts).

Just about the only thing Cole hasn't won is the Cy Young Award.

That should change if Cole (13-4, 2.81 ERA, 208 strikeouts, 1.05 WHIP) finishes the season strong, as he is the heavy betting favorite in the AL.

Cole's odds dropped to -2200 from -1700 (bet $10 to win $10.45 total) this week.

Cole moved ahead of the pack when the Angels shut down two-way star Shohei Ohtani (ulnar collateral ligament tear in right elbow) in late August.

Let's look at the odds for the Cy Young Award for both leagues.

American League Cy Young Award odds*

Gerrit Cole, Yankees: -1700 (bet $10 to win $10.59 total)
Luis Castillo, Mariners: +1200 (bet $10 to win $130 total)

Kevin Gausman, Blue Jays: +25000 (bet $10 to win $2,510 total)
Pablo López, Twins: +25000 (bet $10 to win $2,510 total)

In the National League, San Diego's Blake Snell, like Cole, has separated himself from the rest of the pack.

Snell (14-9, 2.43 ERA, 217 strikeouts, 1.22 WHIP) saw his odds fall to -900 from -170 this week.

Snell, who leads NL pitchers in ERA, is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts in three starts this month.
