WATCH: Woman goes into water for broken golf club at French Open
GUYANCOURT, France (AP) -- A spectator went into the water at the French Open hoping to recover a shiny new golf club. Once she grabbed it, she realized it was broken.
After rolling up her shorts and stepping in, the woman waded through the muddy water on the Golf National course as players watched. She moved forward carefully and collected the club.
A video put on Twitter by the European Tour showed players Tyrrell Hatton and Thomas Pieters laughing on the green as the woman realized the club was useless. Once back on dry land, she threw it into the water.
“Absolutely much watch this... priceless... she thought she was getting a nice new club...," Ian Poulter tweeted.
According to Sky TV, Li Haotong was the player who chucked his club into the lake (and more recent reports now say this spectator was his mother). He was playing two groups ahead of Hatton and Pieters at the French Open, which started Thursday on the outskirts of Paris.
