Tiger Woods says he's trying to rehab 'correctly' this time

Tiger Woods hasn't played a round of competitive golf since last August after undergoing two back surgeries. He's been working towards a long-awaited return for months as he recovers, but there is still no timetable for him to get back on tour.

On Wednesday, he provided an update on his health at the Quicken Loans National at Congressional, which he is hosting for his Tiger Woods Foundation. As expected, he's frustrated with not being able to play in the event.

"It's not fun. It's tough," he said. "This tournament is near and dear to my heart."

While Woods is still clearly upset about not being able to compete, he did seem more comfortable during his press conference. In the past, he has seemed down on himself more than anything. On Wednesday, he appeared in more positive spirits. That's not to say he's ready to return just yet, though.

He still needs to get to the point where he can play on a consistent basis without pushing himself too hard.

Although he didn't say exactly when he'll be back on the PGA Tour or competing for major championships again, Woods, didn't rule out any of the upcoming tournaments. He's playing it "week to week" and hopes "everything clicks in ... sooner than later."

As to be expected, Woods has stayed in tune with the rest of the golf world. He saw Dustin Johnson's win at the U.S. Open last week and shared his thoughts on the penalty he was assessed at the end of his round.

Woods called it "frustrating to watch how it was handled," particularly because of the magnitude of the event. Fortunately, the USGA and Johnson avoided any sort of controversy as he finished three strokes clear of second place after the penalty.
