Tiger Woods confirms he will return to competition in December

Tiger Woods is one step closer to returning to competition.

On Tuesday, Woods confirmed that he will, in fact, play the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas next month.

The injury-plagued golfer had aimed for this December return when Woods withdrew from the Safeway Open last month, explaining that his game simply wasn't good enough to compete against other PGA Tour pros.

"I am excited to make my return at the Hero World Challenge at Albany and play in this terrific tournament," Woods said in a statement.

The 40-year-old Woods, who has been plagued by back injuries, has not played since the Wyndham Championship in 2015.

The Hero World Challenge begins on Dec. 2.
