Scottish Walker Cup golfer James Byrne turns pro
Scottish golfer James Byrne is turning pro, a week after helping Britain and Ireland beat the United States in the Walker Cup.
The 22-year-old Arizona State University graduate signed Monday with international sports agency IMG.
Byrne picked up two points from his three matches as Britain and Ireland beat the Americans 14-12 to regain the Walker Cup.
He says ''the Walker Cup was the perfect stepping stone into the professional ranks and it seems to be the perfect time to make the move.''
Byrne will make his pro debut at a European Challenge Tour event this week in Toulouse, France.
He hopes to play in a top-tier event before trying to secure his tour card at the first stage of the Q-School in Portugal next month.
