Quick work: Landry makes putt for 66, leads US Open

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) Andrew Landry took one putt to set an Oakmont record at the U.S. Open, and no one could catch him.

Landry finished the rain-delayed first round with a 10-foot birdie putt for a 4-under 66. It was the best opening round in the 10 majors at Oakmont, and it gave him a one-shot lead over Lee Westwood and Dustin Johnson.

Because of three rain delays, the first round took over 32 hours to finish.

Landry is a 28-year-old qualifier making his U.S. Open debut. Not since Bob Tway in 1986 at Shinnecock Hills has a U.S. Open rookie had the outright lead after 18 holes.

Westwood birdied his last two holes for a 67. Johnson, the heartbreak runner-up last year at Chambers Bay, didn't start his round until Friday. He didn't make a bogey.
