Martin Kaymer to play at South African Open

Martin Kaymer of Germany, who holed the putt that retained the Ryder Cup for Europe, will play in the South African Open next month.

The former top-ranked player confirmed his participation Wednesday for the Nov. 15-18 event at Serengeti Golf Course near Johannesburg.

It will be a first appearance for the 2010 PGA Championship winner at the European Tour tournament, which offers $1.3 million in prize money this year. Hennie Otto of South Africa is the defending champion.

Tournament chairman Khaya Ngqula says organizers are ''delighted'' to have Kaymer in the field, ''especially after his performance for Europe in the Ryder Cup, which was a case of German precision at its finest.''

Europe made a stunning comeback against United States at Medinah on Sunday, winning after trailing 10-6.
