Indy golf pro cards 31-over 103

Sure, you know what it’s like to have a Murphy’s Law day on the golf course, but did you ever play a round of golf so bad it made the news?

Michael Bembenick did.

On Friday at the Web.com United Leasing Championship in Newburgh, Ind., Bembenick turned in a 31-over 103, which was an even bigger setback than the 17-over 89 he carded on Thursday.

It is important to know that Bembenick is not a PGA golfer. Rather, he is a 27-year-old golf pro at an Indianapolis country club. Good enough that somebody named him Indiana’s Assistant Golf Pro of the Year in 2012.

Infuriating as his round must have been, Bembenick didn’t withdraw.

"It's important to lead by example and show the youth that no matter how bad you play, it's important to finish," he told Golf Channel. "No one likes to see a quitter. I know none of the members at my club or any students that I teach would want to see me quit."

And he plans to play in another competitive event next week.

"I'll probably hit a few balls between now and then and figure out how to hit it straight again," he said.
