Donald closes in on No. 1 with Heritage lead
Luke Donald moved a step closer to golf's No. 1 ranking Friday, shooting a 65 and grabbing a one-stroke lead halfway through The Heritage.
Donald is the world's third-ranked golfer behind top-rated Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood. However, Donald would jump to the top with a win at Harbour Town Golf Links, no matter how Westwood fares this weekend at the Indonesian Masters.
Kaymer is not playing this week.
Donald, 33, hasn't let talk of No. 1 distract him through two rounds, finishing at 10-under 132 for a one-shot lead over first-round leader Garrett Willis.
Masters runner-up Jason Day, defending champion Jim Furyk, Camilo Villegas and Chad Campbell were another stroke behind at 8 under.
Donald was the highest ranked of seven golfers in the world's top 20 competing here. He finished second at Harbour Town two years ago and third last April.
