Daly to play Australian Open, PGA
Two-time major winner John Daly will play the Australian PGA tournament in December and the Australian Open a week earlier in Sydney.
Tournament officials said Monday that Daly, winner of the 1991 U.S. PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open, has signed to play at The Lakes in Sydney from Dec. 2-5 and at the Hyatt Regency Coolum from Dec. 9-12.
In 2002, after taking a triple-bogey 7 on his last hole at Coolum, Daly threw his putter and ball into a greenside pond and later failed to sign for a 78 on his scorecard, disqualifying from the tournament.
Two years ago at the Australian Open, he smashed a spectator's camera into a tree at Royal Sydney's ninth hole. He was given a suspended fine by Golf Australia.
