WVU Football: Prized Recruit To Announce Commitment Saturday
Clairton’s Lamont Wade will make his long-anticipated college announcement on Saturday, choosing between Penn State, West Virginia, Pitt, and UCLA – among others.
The highly-touted corner from Pennsylvania would be a program-altering commitment for Dana Holgorsen and his defense, especially if they were to steal him from the backyard of the hometown Panthers. He was announced Gatorade Player of the Year for his excellence on and off the field, making it easy for schools to dream about signing him.
In the three games leading up to the PIAA Class A championship game, Wade had an interception in each contest. A great accomplishment by itself, but he wasn’t finished there; he returned them all for touchdowns. His longest pick-6 was 100 yards, but the other two were only 83 and 56 yards. Only! This would be dubbed successful if a player compiled these totals for an entire season, let alone the three consecutive playoff games it took Wade.
This is a link to his hudl account where you can see him score touchdowns. A lot of touchdowns.
Lamont Wade is the type of player that brings a certain attitude to a defense, something few possess. Couple that with his unique play-making abilities and Tony Gibson’s vaunted 3-3-5 scheme, and the Mountaineers could continue deploying one of the fiercest defenses in the nation. And with both 4-star and 5-star rankings from different sources, there’s one thing all can agree on; Lamont Wade is the real deal.
