Wisconsin loses star linebacker for the Michigan game

Wisconsin star linebacker and team captain Vince Biegel will miss Saturday’s game against Michigan after undergoing surgery on his foot, a source told FOX Sports Thursday.

Biegel had 14 TFLs and eight sacks in 2015. This season he has nine tackles, two TFLs and a sack for a defense that has only allowed three TDs this year.

On Friday coach Paul Chryst announced that Biegel will need “several weeks” to recover.

“I really hate any time a player has to miss time due to an injury, especially a senior like Vince,” Chryst said. “Vince has such a passion for football and loves playing the game. This team is very important to him, and he is very important to our team. What you appreciate is that you know he will do everything in his power to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

ESPN.com was the first to report the news of Biegel’s surgery.
