Win puts Pitt in the 700 club

A strong, fourth-quarter defensive stand by Pitt Saturday not only allowed it to hang on to a 26-19 victory over Virginia, but enabled the Panthers become the 19th school in FBS history to have 700 wins.

Pitt quarterback Nate Peterman passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Chris James rushed for 94 years.

With the victory over Virginia (1-4, 0-1 ACC), the Panthers improved to 4-1 (2-0 ACC) for the first time since 2009.

"Hopefully now we'll get some respect around the country and people will start noticing this is a different team than we had in the past," tight end Scott Orndoff said.
