West Virginia Football: Will Grier officially eligible for season opener

After being suspended for PED use and transferring to West Virginia football, Will Grier is officially eligible for the season opener.

Will Grier had a strong start to his Florida Gator career in 2015. He started the Gators' first six games, leading them to a 6-0 record and all looked to be going Florida's way. However, he was suspended for PED use and later decided to transfer to West Virginia.

Despite announcing his transfer, the PED suspension loomed and West Virginia wasn't sure that he would be allowed to play the 2017 season opener.

Good news found Morgantown, W.V., on Tuesday as head coach Dana Holgorsen posted something on Twitter that put every West Virginia fan's mind at ease. Grier would be eligible for the season opener on Sept. 3.

Getting the transfer from Grier initially was big for the Mountaineers, but they had to hope he'd be eligible immediately in 2017, especially with Skyler Howard gone. Now that he's good to go, the Mountaineers can realistically compete for the Big 12 title.

Before his suspension in 2015, Grier started the season with 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns with just three picks and a 66 percent completion rate. He had also run for 116 yards and two more scores.

West Virginia is getting itself a proven winner and a guy who could start for a couple of years before moving on to the next level. He has a strong, accurate arm and can tuck and run with it, when he needs to.

Watch out for these Mountaineers as they could take the Big 12 by storm. Grier is an absolute game-changer under center.
