Week Two Edition: 3 teams that should be ranked lower than Louisville football

The Louisville football team took care of business Friday evening, knocking off the Syracuse Orange by the score of 62-28. However, who now are the teams that need be rated lower than the Cards?

Lamar Jackson has the Louisville football team off to an incredible start in the 2016 college football season. After gaining much preseason attention from the media, Jackson’s hot start has everyone in the country on Heisman-watch. Louisville currently sits at number 13 in the nation and after another full day of football, they might be looking to move further up into the top ten.

Should the Cardinals be a top ten football team at this point in the season? Absolutely and here’s why:

Louisville has played two great games so far this year, outscoring their opponents 132-42, largely due to the play of sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson. It’s pretty tough to name any other quarterback that has played better than Jackson in the first two games of this season. The scary thing is that he is only getting better by the day.

Syracuse was a sneaky test for the Cardinals football team. Newly hired head coach Dino Babers has been wildly successful everywhere he has coached. Not to mention, the Carrier Dome was well above 80 degrees, which gave Louisville players cramps all evening long. While the Cardinals didn’t play amazing, they were still able to win 62-28. How many teams can say that?

The, “Well, Louisville hasn’t played any good teams” argument is a bunch of garbage. The Clemson Tigers, the number two team in the country barely beat the Troy Trojans Saturday afternoon, 30-24. In a game where the Tigers didn’t play very well, they were only able to win by six at home. The Cardinals however, have been able to win huge no matter where they are playing or who they are playing.

Good teams find a way to win when they aren’t playing well. However, great teams find a way to blow teams out even when they aren’t playing well. Which category do you think Bobby Petrino’s Cardinals are in?

Louisville deserves to be in the top ten in next week’s AP Poll. They will have an opportunity to show why they deserve to be there next Saturday against Florida State. It’s a huge game for both schools and whoever comes out on top may be playing in the College Football Playoff.

This is what college football is all about.

#11 Texas Longhorns (2-0)

Oh yes, former Louisville football coach Charlie Strong has the Texas Longhorns finally headed back in the right direction. The Longhorns won a thriller to start the season against Notre Dame in overtime and recently beat UTEP handily, 41-7. However, does the Texas football team deserve to be rated higher than the Bobby Petrino’s Cardinals?

You guessed it, they don’t need to be rated higher than the Louisville football team after this weekend. They haven’t done anything wrong, it’s just there is no way that Texas could slow down Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson. He is dangerously one of the best players in the whole nation right now. It’s tough to rate a team with a freshman playing quarterback higher than the Cardinals.

It’s still up in the air whether the win against Notre Dame is as great as it was only a week ago. The Fighting Irish knocked off Nevada today, but it still is an unknown how great that win is this this season. Either way, Texas has played two great games to start the year.

They started the season unranked, however beating the Irish propelled them all the way into the number 11 spot in the country. A little surprising that a team who has been struggling for the past 3 years can all the sudden hop over a consistent Louisville squad.

At the end of the day, Louisville is more talented than Texas across the board. Charlie Strong has his program headed in the right direction, but they are still a step or two behind the Cardinals.

#10 Wisconsin Badgers (2-0)

The Badgers joined the Longhorns last week as teams who jumped over Louisville in the AP Poll after being unranked the week before. They were able to knock off LSU in a huge season opener, however LSU might be one of the weaker teams in the SEC this season. That huge win may turn out to not be as great as it seems.

Wisconsin throttled Akron today, 54-10. It was probably a great game for the Badgers to unleash some steam after playing a tough game with the Tigers only a week ago. They will be looking to play even better against Georgia State next Saturday.

Senior quarterback Bart Houston had a solid game against Akron, throwing for 231 yards and two touchdowns. However, he struggled against a good LSU defense a week ago throwing for 205 yards and two interceptions. Those kind of stats against “good” teams aren’t going to prove why your team should be in the top ten.

Don’t get me wrong, the Badgers have a very good football team this season. However, the Louisville Cardinals and quarterback Lamar Jackson are much better. Look for the Louisville football team to be rated higher than the Badgers in next week’s AP Poll.

#9 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)

Talk about the luckiest team of the second week of the college football season. The Bulldogs played the Nicholls Colonels at home on Saturday, just edging them out 26-24. Yes, even ugly wins are good wins, but this proves that they aren’t ready to hold down that number nine spot just yet.

After beating a good North Carolina team the first week of the season, the Bulldogs now leave a serious question mark about their 2016 outlook. They have tough competition in the SEC East this season, as Florida and Tennessee are primed to give the Georgia football team a run for their money.

Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread down at the University of Georgia, however he didn’t show that against Nicholls. You figure that the number nine team in the country would destroy such a team at home. The Bulldogs on the other hand, were not able to do that at all.

There is zero doubt whether Nick Chubb is one of the best running backs in the country, but it should concern fans that he only had 20 carries for 80 yards against the Colonels. Georgia needs to lean on Chubb throughout the course of their tough 2016 schedule.

The Bulldogs knocked off the Cardinals in the Belk Bowl a few years ago. However, that would not be the case if they played this season. Louisville should be rated higher than than Georgia. Mark it down.
