WATCH: Huskers share special video of defense getting Blackshirts

There are very few traditions in all of college football that are more cherished by fans than the 'Blackshirts' defense of Nebraska.

Today when the Huskers defensive players entered the locker room for practice, they found a surprise waiting for them. They had been awarded their black practice jerseys. Defensive players receiving black practice jerseys is a tradition that dates back to 1964.

Defensive coordinator Mark Banker had this to say after practice:

“Now it’s time to represent [the Blackshirts] in everything you do, whether it be on the field, which is the important criteria, and the other part is off the field, whether it is academics or on the street."
