Watch: Eagle QB Wade leaves game with injury; FSU's Ramsey returns fumble for a score
Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for a Boston College offense that was struggling against Florida State during both teams’ ACC opener Friday night, they did as Eagles quarterback Darius Wade was forced to leave game after taking a sack in the fourth quarter of their 14-0 loss to the No. 9 Seminoles (3-0, 1-0).
BC’s first-year starting quarterback took a shotgun snap at the Eagles 25-yard line and was charged by FSU’s 300-pound defensive lineman Nile Lawrence-Stample, who caused him to fumble the ball, which was recovered by the Seminoles.
Wade appeared to sustain a lower-body injury on the play and had to be helped off the field with approximately 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The sophomore signal-caller finished the game completing four of his 12 pass attempts for 47 yards and one interception.
Both Jeff Smith and Troy Flutie took snaps at QB after Wade limped off to the sideline.
The injury was salt in the wounds for the Eagles (2-1, 0-1), who on the previous possession fumbled the ball, resulting in a scoop-and-score by Seminoles DB Jalen Ramsey that extended FSU’s lead to 14-0.
The Eagles faced second-and-11 at their own 41-yard line when Wade handed the ball off to running back Jon Hilliman, who was stripped Terrance Smith near the line of scrimmage. Ramsey pounced on the loose ball and dashed 36 yards for the second scoop-and-score of his career.
